About Yellow Card Vaccine Monitor

This page describes the Yellow Card Vaccine Monitor.

Yellow Card Vaccine Monitor

The Yellow Card Vaccine Monitor is a programme, run by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), to help continuously monitor the safety of COVID-19 vaccines.

Monitoring is a normal process for any newly authorised product and continues for the lifespan of the vaccines use.

The safety of COVID-19 vaccines has been demonstrated in clinical trials. However, we want to add to this knowledge by proactively collecting data outside of the trials to ensure that real world use of COVID-19 vaccines reflects the experience through clinical trials.

Data collected via the Yellow Card Vaccine Monitor will be used alongside other data sources to continuously monitor the safety of COVID-19 vaccines.

As such, when being invited for a COVID-19 vaccination, some individuals will be asked to separately register to the Yellow Card Vaccine Monitor. Registering to this site has no impact on a person’s eligibility to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals that are invited to register to the Yellow Card Vaccine Monitor will be asked to read and agree to the signing up details and the privacy policy to be able to contribute.

We will then ask the individuals to provide information, including about their medical history and medications, at different times:

·       Before their vaccination

·       On the day of vaccination

·       After their vaccination

If you are a parent, carer or family member then you can contribute on behalf of an invited individual, so long as you have their consent. If you have not been invited to register then you can report any suspected side effects to COVID-19 vaccines to us on our Coronavirus Yellow Card reporting website.

There are a number of COVID-19 apps available; including NHS COVID-19 and the COVID Symptom Study app. The Yellow Card Vaccine Monitor is a standalone data collection platform which does not directly link to other COVID-19 websites or apps.
